Josephine Tey also wrote under the pseudonym of Gordon Daviot. She was a novelist and playwright, born in Inverness.

Under the pseudonym Josephine Tey she wrote Mystery Novels, and her plays were under Gordon Daviot, though a few of her books were also published under Daviot.

Her first detective novel The Man in the Queue 1929 published by Methuen was first published under Gordon Daviot. This was the first in her series of six novels featuring her detective- Inspector Alan Grant.

This was followed by A Shilling for Candles 1936 published by Methuen, as Josephine Tey. The plot features Grant and e the investigation of the death of a film actress.

Following this mystery, The Franchise Affair 1948 was published by Peter Davies. Arguably a detective novel, it does not feature Grant, but instead Robert Blair a solicitor. Inspired by the 18th century case of Elizabeth Canning.

To Love and Be Wise, published by Peter Davies in 1950, features Grant again in a village mystery where a crime may or may not have taken place.

The Daughter of Time, 1951, Peter Davies was the last book published in Tey's lifetime, and concerns Grant investigating the alleged crimes of King Richard III. The British Crime Writers' Association voted it number one in The Top 100 Crime Novels of All Time.
