1955. Peter Davies. Increasingly scarce in any edition. Third printing from February 1955 of book first published in June 1953, under the pseudonym Gordon Daviot.Jacket illustration by Val Biro.  Firm binding. Boards slightly faded to edges but otherwise clean. Page edges browned and top/fore edges are quite heavily spotted. Some spotting to endpapers and to a lesser extent to prelims. Browning to the half-title and facing page with some spotting in a few places but otherwise unmarked. Jacket  has been repriced by the publisher with a small label to the front flap. Chipping to the corners and edges with some small closed tears and a little loss at the top and bottom of the spine, the top right corner of the front panel and the top right corner of the rear panel. One inch crease to the top corner of the front panel. Dustwrapper now protected by removable archival sleeve.
